Stacy & David: Engagement Portraits

Posted

“We don’t need a Plan B,” I emailed to Stacy. “Weather.com says we’ll be fine.”

Weather.com lied.

It was chilly, gray, and drizzly as Stacy, David, and I met in Downtown Greenville, SC, for their engagement portraits today, but the weather didn’t dampen the spirits of these two, who I’ve known since we were all in high school together. They laughed and giggled during the entire session, and I just couldn’t wait to post their Sneak Peek!

A lot of times, my couples (*cough cough–grooms*) will say that they hate having their pictures taken, and I try to reassure them that we’ll have fun and they’ll eventually forget that I’m even there. At the beginning today’s session, David told me that he would rather be at the dentist getting a tooth pulled than having his pictures taken. As we said our goodbyes, however, he told me and Stacy “I’d be lying if I said I didn’t actually have fun doing this!” 🙂 So there you have it folks, Amy Clifton Photography is better than dental work.

Stephanie’s Bridal Portraits

Posted

Congratulations to Stephanie and Clark–today is their wedding day! I’m publishing Stephanie’s bridal portraits from their reception, because I just can’t wait any longer to show you guys this beautiful bride! We shot these on a snowy Valentine’s Day weekend in Downtown Greenville SC, largely at the historic Westin Poinsett Hotel. Stephanie looked fabulous, and her sister Julie gets the MOH of the Year Award…I want to bring her on all of my shoots to help out. 🙂

Kathy & Jonathan: “We DID!” Wedding Portraits

Posted

Who’s ready for spring? Yah, me too, and I’m betting that Kathy and Jonathan are as well! Here in upstate South Carolina, we’ve had an unusual amount of snow/sleet/ice/slush/cold/wind this season, and Kathy and Jonathan’s January mountain wedding and honeymoon were during a major ice/snow storm in SC and NC. As a matter of fact, they changed their wedding date and venue with less than 24 hours’ notice so their guests could get home before the snow hit! Kathy was completely calm when I talked with her, and she said she was just excited to become Jonathan’s wife a day sooner. Aw! Unfortunately, I was not able to be there for their ceremony, but we had an amazing “We DID!” portrait session up at The Red Horse Inn in Landrum, SC (the intended site of the wedding) last Sunday…two days before yet another bout of slush. 😉

Beautiful rolling hills and mountain views at The Red Horse Inn…

Kathy’s dress had gorgeous details…flirty ruffles, beautiful lace, and just enough sparkle.

Ann Blair’s Wedding: The Girls

Posted

As much as I love being the lead photographer for my brides, sometimes I really enjoy “second shooting” for another photographer; it’s a great opportunity to learn from someone else and to capture some of the emotion and angles that happen behind the scenes during the formal portraits. Back in December, I was able to work with Olivia Griffin, and it was so much fun! Olivia is a fantastic photographer and is becoming a great friend. Ann Blair’s Spartanburg wedding was beautiful and Christmas-y. Most of these shots are of Ann Blair getting ready and her bridesmaids, who had some of the the.most.gorgeous dresses ever. Enjoy!

Rebecca & Marshall: 7 Minute “Anytime” Portraits

Posted

As an only child, my parents have always made a special effort to love my friends and include them as a part of our family. Because of this, I have rarely felt lonely or like I was missing out by not having a brother or sister…my friends ARE part of my family. Of all my close friends, Rebecca is probably the most like a sister to me. She has been there nearly my entire life, and our paths have been a shared experience. We were in the same kindergarten class, we graduated from high school together, we shared the dumpiest college apartment on the planet (you could literally see through holes in the wall into our neighbor’s apt), and I was the Maid of Honor in her wedding. (Our friend Brandy and I knew before Rebecca did that Marshall was “The One.” 😉 ) Rebecca is ridiculously funny, fiercely loyal, pretty darn tall, protective of her friends, supportive, an animal advocate, and loves to run an inside joke into.the.ground. I *heart* this girl!

hartley04

This fall, Rebecca and Marshall celebrated their 5th wedding anniversary, and I helped Rebecca research photographers in Alabama, where they now live, to shoot some anniversary portraits. Marshall surprised us both when he said, “If anybody is going to take those pictures of us, it’s going to be Amy!” Um, hello good husband! We got together in the mountains of North Carolina during New Year’s weekend….when the highs were barely 20 degrees and wind chills were in single digits during the heat of midday. “Brrrrrr” doesn’t begin to describe it! We scrapped our plans for an “anytime session” all throughout the mountains and opted for a whopping 7 minute session (yes, I checked my starting/ending stats after downloading my photos!) at the Mountain Farm Museum near Cherokee NC. After only 7 minutes, my fingertips were grayish and burning…yes I will sacrifice my body for good photos, as I’m guessing that was some sort of pre-frostbite!!

Just like in life & love & friendships, the cold and wind are easier to bear when you hold close to the ones you love…

This is true Rebecca and Marshall…full of laughter!

Daniel, add this one to your campaign kit, hehe…

Just past the Mountain Farm Museum, we saw a bunch of elk on the side of the road! Several years ago, the parks department in Western North Carolina reintroduced elk into the mountain habitat…very cool to see them grazing just a few yards from all of us excited tourists. I like that this girl looks like she’s chatting with her elk buddies….
