Marilynn + Josh: Seattle Engagement Portraits

Posted

mjeng05

Marilynn is one of my closest friends. She is adventurous, spontaneous, outgoing, sarcastic, loyal, and a little bit scatterbrained. Josh is the love of her life. He is thoughtful, patient, quiet, witty, and a little bit systematic (he is, after all, a chemist). They recently got engaged and moved to Seattle, which stinks because I don’t get to hang out with Marilynn whenever I want to. Also, they recently got engaged and moved to Seattle, which is awesome, because I get to go visit whenever I want to!

mjeng04

Seattle is so lush and green, and it’s like a green that you don’t see anywhere else. I fell in love with this city! It was such a treat to shoot Marilynn and Josh’s engagement portraits while I was out visiting. We went to the Seattle Japanese Garden, which is part of the University of Washington. It was gorgeous, and very green. 🙂 I have entirely too many favorites. Beautiful location + in love couple = photographic awesomesauce. Enjoy!

mjeng03

By the way, the leaves were already beginning to turn, and it was LABOR DAY WEEKEND!! Can you believe that? It was still 80* here in SC this week!

mjeng14

Love this!

mjeng15

They said they didn’t want a bunch of “kissy-face” pictures, but I came back from scouting a location, and here’s what I found…

mjeng36

Hehe, I had to include this one. These two are ALWAYS picking at each other…keeps them on their toes I think!

mjeng27

mjeng29

And a favorite from the day, with Josh looking a bit fierce himself!

mjeng26

Marilynn and Josh, thank you for an amazing vacation in your fantastic new city. Thank you for the amazing photo-session, cufflink disaster and all. And mostly, thank you for being the kind of friends I can count on and call on any day, for hours at a time, for honesty and understanding and tons of laughter. I love y’all!

Meg & Alex: Picnic in the Park Wedding, Part I

Posted

There are 5 Things you should know about Meg and Alex:

1) They are adorably, fully in love.
2) They are both incredibly creative.
3) Photography was one of the top priorities for their wedding. (Yay!!)
4) They planned their entire wedding in 34 days
5) …but not for the reason you are thinking!! Ha!

Meg and Alex’s theme was “A Picnic in the Park,” and lots of it was DIY. I admire anyone who takes on the details of decorations and flowers themselves, and Meg gets bonus points for doing this in barely a month’s time! Meg’s dress was perfect for their outdoor, fun, and festive celebration.

I *heart* Meg’s blue ballet flats!! She searched every single shoe store in Greenville SC for these, and finally found them online. Yay!

ma04

ma02

Speaking of DIY, Meg made this cute ring box…

ma09

Meg’s “something old” and “something borrowed” was her Grandmother’s gold and pearl necklace…which Miss Creative wore as a bracelet!

ma08

ma14

Beautiful and beaming! (and maybe a little giddy!)

ma16

ma18

I die over birdcage veils. So elegantly retro.

ma07

ma19

Realizing that she’s really, truly A Bride…

ma21

ma22

Meg and Alex chose to do a “First Look” before their ceremony. I looooooooooooove this decision! My couples who choose to see each other before the ceremony get to have a few moments alone to sink in the emotions of the day without everyone surrounding them, and it makes for some beautifully intimate and emotion images. (We also get to wrap up all of the posed group shots before the ceremony, so you can head straight from the ceremony to the reception!) I know this is a very personal decision for a bride and groom, but from the photography and scheduling standpoint, it is an awesome decision! OK, stepping off of my soapbox to show you the images. 😉

Meg waiting for her hubs-to-be to come…a little excitement, a little emotion, and a little nervousness…

ma23

ma27

OMGoodness too cute!

ma29

ma32

And this, my friends, is the kind of tenderness you get with a First Look. I absolutely love this one…

ma34

The sassy wedding party! (Meg was her own florist, too!)

ma36

ma37

ma38

Meg and her sweet dad…

ma41

…and Alex and his sweet (and PROUD!) mom. She is absolutely beaming at her baby boy!! (Alex, will you forgive me for calling you her baby boy on the internet? Sorry.)

ma43

Hehe, this makes me smile.

ma39

Stay tuned for Part II: the ceremony, “couple pictures,” and the oh-so-cute gingham and sunflower filled reception. As always, I hope you will leave a comment to “show me (and the newlyweds!) some love.”
