Miss Emma: Portraits

Posted

Little Emma and her parents came to me for her 6-month photos, and she is quite the cutie! Round cheeks, a big grin, and strawberry blonde hair that matched the leaves we were playing in. She recently discovered her tongue, and it is sticking out in about half our pictures, hehe. She is too adorable, and her Mommy and Daddy love her like crazy!

Sweet girl!

This session was special for me, because we shot some of the portraits at my grandparents’ house beneath their humongous maple tree just a few weeks after my Grandmother died. She always loved the carpet of leaves, and it made her happy to see children playing there.

Squishy face…makes me smile too!

We moved on to a field near my house. I am forever driving past cool spots just hoping someone will agree to have their photos taken there! I’ve started taking pics of new locations on my phone so I can remember them all!

emma09

Love this one…

Baby Wyatt: Newborn

Posted

Baby Wyatt’s parents love life. They want to have their toes in the sand and to hear the sounds of waves lapping against the hull of their sailboat.
Baby Wyatt’s parents experience life. They travel the seas, they cheer like crazy for their favorite football teams, and they rescue animals who need a home.
Baby Wyatt’s parents treasure life. When Jennifer was only a couple of months pregnant with Wyatt, the family was hit head on by a drunk driver, leaving Jeff with months and months of recovery from his injuries.

Baby Wyatt’s parents live life, and they gave their son the most appropriate name, as WYATT means “strong and brave” and also “water.” These photos are from his one-month birthday…

Stephanie + Clark: Engaged

Posted

The wardrobes were carefully selected, there was a bagful of earrings to choose from, and the clouds parted on the mountaintop after a weekend of rain. But Stephanie laughed nervously and wasn’t quite sure whether to look at the camera or at Clark. He sweetly brushed her hair from her face like he’s done it a thousand times before, kissed her on the forehead, and twirled her around between the rows of apple trees. There was no music to dance to except the breeze rustling through the fall leaves, but it didn’t matter. Suddenly, she wasn’t laughing because of nerves; she was laughing because she knew exactly where to look…right into the eyes of the man who fills her heart with calm and excitement all at the same time.

I’ve gotten some questions recently from photographers and potential clients asking about posing, and my answer is always the same: I put my couples in a background that looks nice and in lighting that I like, and then I simply step back and watch what happens. ACP really is all about the “real moments, true emotions, and important details of your life.” Isn’t that what photography is all about!

Stephanie and Clark, I had the best day with you guys. Thank you for being so enthusiastic and kind, for dragging that crazy apple wagon all over the place when I wasn’t coordinated enough to do it :-), and for introducing me to the yummy apple cider donuts. I hope this was a wonderful way to spend your 5 years + 1 day anniversary! I’m looking forward to seeing you guys again.

As always, I love it when you “show me (and my amazing couples) some love!”

Amber & Alyssa: Sisters

I have no idea what is going on with the weather in the South, with it raining nearly every Saturday this fall! The morning of Amber and Alyssa’s portraits was YET ANOTHER rainy day, even though weather.com said it wasn’t raining. Um, I’m standing outside in it…thanks technology. 😉 We decided to go ahead with our session, praying for a break in the clouds. As I drove out to Furman for the session, I prayed specifically for at least 45 minutes without rain, preferably from 10:15-11:00 (we were meeting at 10, so I knew we wouldn’t start immediately). And guess what? Not a drop from 10:15 until about 5 after 11:00. God IS in the little things…and He even gave us some extra time!

Amber is a senior at Bob Jones Academy. She is sweet and humble and has a beautiful smile.

She is passionate about music, and has been playing the French Horn for many years. Meet Herman the Horn…

Alyssa is 13. She is cute as can be, and I loved her quiet sassiness…so “13.”

Amber, Alyssa, & Andrea, thanks so much for being complete troopers in the wet weather! You were so agreeable and great to work with! Looking forward to seeing you again soon. 🙂

Victoria & Annalee

Posted

My first bridal portraits many years ago were of two sisters. It’s been a long time since I’ve gotten the opportunity to photograph two “grown-up” sisters, so it was really fun to work with Victoria and Annalee recently! (Sidenote, those 2 sisters in the bridal portraits are good friends with V&A’s cousin. Everything comes full-circle….) They brought a variety of great outfits–helloooo, I love clothes–and were totally willing to take photos in some unusual places (like a grungy loading dock, ha!). I love all the bright colors we got, and good grief they both have the most beautiful eyes. See for yourself…

OK. The Field.

I’ve spent many an evening grilling out and listening to Pearl Jam and outlaw country on my friend Kevin’s back patio, which overlooks this great field. Every time I’m hanging out I think “Man, I wanna shoot someone’s portraits out there!” The sun sets perfectly over the grasses, and it’s so beautiful and glowy. On the afternoon of Victoria and Annalee’s session, however, we had storm clouds instead of golden sunlight! We pulled up to thunder and lightning, but the prayers I sent up on the drive over worked…the storm rolled by in the (not-so-distant) distance, and we had a crazy backdrop of dark grayish-blue clouds.

LOVE this whole series, and I simply could not pick which ones for you to see!! (And I love their dresses!! Makes me want to go shopping. :-))

So I have a thing lately for funky chairs. This one came from Goodwill and was $1. I almost never carry cash, though, so I had to dig around and pay for it with change. There was another $1 chair that I wanted, but I didn’t have anymore change. True story. *Sigh.* Anyway, Victoria made the chair look like a million bucks!

Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong here (I’m not), but Annalee’s eyes are completely awesome!

av21

OK, so here is the cute factor. I’m sure V & A are happy their hairstyles have changed since they were little girls, but I think this is adorable!!

Ladies, I had a great time with you! Thanks for completely rocking this shoot!
